Listen to the podcast for a more in-depth discussion on this topic!
If you’ve ever stayed up late tweaking your website copy or rewriting the same headline for the tenth time, hoping it’s finally “good enough” to attract the right clients - then I’m glad you’re here to read this! It’s written specifically for you.
And if you’re doing that while your family’s waiting for you to unplug and be present?
I see you. I was you.
Balancing a growing business with a full life - family, faith, and your own sanity - means you need copy that works just as hard as you do behind the scenes.
That’s why I’m sharing 4 copywriting and strategic messaging tweaks that can instantly make your website more effective.
These are foundational strategies I use with my private clients—female entrepreneurs and small business owners - so their websites connect, convert, and clearly communicate the value they bring.
Here are your 4 tweaks:
1. BE CLEAR IN YOUR COMMUNICATION
You’ve seen it before: clever taglines that make you laugh but leave you wondering what’s actually being offered.
When it comes to your website, clarity wins every time.
Example:
❌ “Uncover the Secrets to a Dreamy Birth Experience!”
✅ “Your Journey to a Pain-Free Birth and Joy-Filled Postpartum Starts Here.”
The second headline speaks directly to a specific desire and uses language that feels concrete.
Your audience shouldn't have to decode what you mean. They should see themselves in the words that are used and know exactly what they’ll gain.
Copy Tip: When in doubt, ask yourself—Would my ideal client immediately understand what I do from this headline?
2. MAKE IT ABOUT THEM, NOT YOU!
This is one of the biggest copy mistakes I see on websites: talking too much about yourself.
Your audience isn’t coming to your homepage to read your resume—they want to know what’s in it for them.
Example:
❌ “I’ve coached hundreds of women and know exactly how to grow a business.”
✅ “You’ll walk away with a step-by-step plan tailored to your strengths, so you can finally scale with confidence.”
That shift turns your copy from self-centered to client-centered. And that’s what builds connection and conversions.
People want to feel like you’re talking directly to them.
Quick Check: Go through your homepage and count how many times you say “I” or “me” vs. “you.” If “I” or “me” wins, rewrite.
3. USE THE EXACT LANGUAGE YOUR AUDIENCES USES
Copy that connects doesn’t come from brainstorming clever phrases—it comes from listening.
Your ideal clients are telling you what they’re struggling with.
In your DMs.
In testimonials.
In sales calls.
Use their exact words in your copy.
Example:
If your client says: “I feel like I’m drowning in my business,” don’t translate that to: “I’ll help you with time management.”
Say: “You don’t have to feel like you’re drowning anymore. I’ll help you take back control of your time and your business.”
Copy Tip: Start a Google Doc called My Customer’s Language and start pasting in exact phrases your audience uses.
4. SPEAK TO BOTH PAIN POINTS AND POSSIBILITIES
Don’t just say what you offer—show your audience how it solves their problems and gets them where they want to go.
Example:
❌ “I help women get fit.”
✅ “Tired of starting and stopping your fitness routine, feeling like you’ll never see results? I’ll help you create a sustainable plan that works with your busy schedule - so you can finally feel strong, confident, and in control of your health.”
Your words should emotionally resonate with your target audience. This kind of copy shows that you understand and that you have the solution.
Your Challenge:
Pick ONE of these tweaks and apply it to your homepage, about page, or sales page this week.
Rewrite a headline to make it clearer.
Swap “I” for “you.”
Add client language.
Strengthen a section that expresses the pains and desires of your ideal client or customer.
Remember, ou don’t need to overhaul everything.
Just make small changes, and these will bring you big wins!
